When Olaudah Equiano was eleven years old he and his sister were kidnapped and later separated and sold to striver traders in the West Indies. He spent a small get along of time in Virginia and the remaining time on British Trade Vessels and slave transmits serving as a slave to the captains. While on a British Vessel, Captain hydrogen Pascal gave Olaudah the name Gustavas Vassas, which he used throughout his invigoration (Equiano, p 26).
