Epic: A long recital poem told in a formal, elevated style that focuses on a serious subject and chronicles heroic plant and pointts cardinal to a culture or nation (Davis et al. 1650).

Arête: lawfulness (Morford and Lenardon 415).
Important in the sentiment of arête is ones standing in the eyes of others, which is gained not only by words and deeds but also by gifts and spoils relative to those of others. Therefore Achilles celebrate was slighted when Agamemnon took away Briseis, and he had good cause to withdraw from the fighting, even though the Greeks suffered terribly as a result.

Pietas: a virtue that includes a sense of duty and service (Morford and Lenardon 589). According to Morford and Lenardon, pietas is illustrated by Virgils trojan hero Aeneas in the Roman big The Aeneid: The epic hero Aeneas is motivated by pietas, which leads him to leave ease and babys dummy to pursue a destiny of which he does not perplex fully aware until after his visit to the Underworld (Morford and Lenardon 590).
The Iliad ends with Achilles returning(a) Hectors body to Hectors father, Priam. The text does not include the story of the Trojan horse or the fall of Troy. See Virgils The Aeneid for an account of those events.
