I feel that Homer is using genus Athenes character as the uplifting messenger. She thinks telling Telemachus virtually his takes return home will bring him new endurance. Using this courage to stand up for himself and speak his mind. Overall, she wants him to uprise into the man that he has to become. Pg. 210:In this part of the chronicle, Homer uses genus Athene to tell Telemachus of his acquires survival. I believe genus Athene has disguised herself into Mentes in order to inform him. Mentes basically tells him about his background which includes a history of friendship between he and Telemachuss father. I think this was used to basically watch Telemachus on his good side, therefore he would believe his story of his fathers survival. Pg. 211:In this speech, Homer shows Telemachuss vexation towards his own father. This shows humanity, in that every abandoned child feels towards an abstracted father with Telemachus being no exception. He basically says that consort to everybody else Odysseus is his father, but mentally and emotionally he is unsure. Pg 223:In this stanza, Telemachus is appeal and questioning the gods as if he wants to give up. Homer uses Athena as a coach-like figure in that she gives him words of courage and motivation.

Athena has intervened numerous times in the story, it is obvious that she wants to dish out Telemachus grow up and become a better person. She persuades him to cargo area going on his journey and claims she will help him on the way. Pg. 226:In this passage, Athena finally gets Telemachus to board his ship and brush the sea. She finds him some sailors and pilots the ships herself. With her help, Homer shows that Telemachus can take charge and be a leader similar to that of his father. The story ends with them sailing despatch into the sea all night. All of Athenas interventions seemed to use up worked as Telemachus is a step closer to finding his father and becoming a man.
