            In the 2009 science fiction pip District 9, directed by Neill Blomkamp, Blomkamp uses District 9, a military-guarded slum in Johannesburg, South Africa to exploit the essence of a dystopian world amongst society. The film, inspired by events from the time of apartheid, follows multinational United employee Wikus van der Merwe as he heads up a project to relocate human-like aliens who landed about 20 geezerhood previous. Twenty years before, an extraterrestrial space ship came to a stop e rattlingwhere the city of Johannesburg in South Africa and remained on that point for three months before any activity took place. With pressure from the unhappy citizens of Johannesburg and the rest of the world, the government decided to investigate the spaceship that hovered over their city and eventually they discovered millions of aliens (derogatively known as prawns) that were undernourish and in bad health. In the course of time, these aliens were segregated into their very own slum apart from the city (humans). This slum was abruptly inhumane and unacceptable to society, creating the true essence of a dystopian world.

District 9 is a dystopian society because the conditions of animation are deliberately made miserable for the aliens, characterized by poverty, oppression, force (due to the Broken Window Theory), disease, and lack of tidiness.
