What this situation will in fact create is an oppressive society in which the people are complete slaves to the whims of the monopoly, which in turn is encourageed by the government.
In fact, as in today's capitalist society, there seems to be little difference, if any, in the midst of the capitalist and the government leader. The result, in either case, is the oppression of the people who are powerless in the face of the wealth and power of the corporation and the government. When Bellamy proposes doing away with competing interests in society in order to eliminate corruption and abuses of power, he is displaying an amazing lack of logic. If whizz organizes competing gangs into a single entity, is the result a transformation of those gangs into a benevolent unit, or is the result an even greater dousing of evil? The government which approvingly oversees a society dominated by monopolies is more vulnerable to corruption, oppression and abuses of power than a society of competing interests overseen by a government designed to protect the people from economic, social, political and other oppression.
